Eating breakfast

How would eating breakfast help you to lose weight?
  • Eating breakfast kick-start your metabolism
  • Less likely to eating erratically or giving into junk food
  • Skipping breakfast make you overly hungry & will over eat later in the day
"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!" How many times have I heard this?

Let's breakdown the word Breakfast - Break & fast.
Mmmm.. I get it now. This is the first meal after your fasting (sleeping) hours. So, in simple terms breakfast does not relate to the first meal of day light hours.
I hope this clear things for people who do shift work & have different sleeping patterns.

What should Breakfast be?

This is an interesting question, as most breakfast consists of either one or two food groups(usually grains & dairy), but as this is the first meal of waking hours it should contain the right balance of nutrients from all the food groups.

This means breakfast should contain the right balance of nutrients containing protein, complex carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals.. etc.

We need these to:

  1. Replenish the energy we used during the last 24hrs.
  2. Replenish the nutrients used to repair our body during sleep
  3. Replenish the reduced water levels
  4. Ensure that the blood sugar levels are kept within the normal levels

Ok, what's the first & easiest thing to do as soon as you get out of bed?

You guessed it .... Drink a glass of water. (I mean 250ml) I have come across some people who do not like to drink plain simple water, so just simply add a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime or orange juice. This will also wake up your digestive system.

But, if you really want to clean your inside as much as you would on the outside then adding something like Aloe Drink will cleanse & assist the absorption of nutrients.

Now, what's for breakfast?

My friend in the UK pointed me to this site called Realbuzz & I was surprised to find such a great range of breakfast ideas. It is a site worth looking at
